tom jones

from Praise & Blame (2010)

MY TAKE: Most music critics aren’t the heartless bastards we like to think they are, hence the elevation of Tom Jones’ Praise & Blame from ”good job, well done m8” to legendary status. It is a warm and loving album and worth keeping, but a touching backstory doesn’t make it an instant classic. (Kudos to Tom:  I posted this on the Spill blog and several indie snobs, an affectionate term, said it was the first time they’d listened to a Tom Jones song all the way through!)
