Pop was still quite limited in scope in 1962, folk music was polite, country music was awful, and Motown had the urban talent locked in. On the bright side, there was really good jazz all over the charts, Benjamin Britten completed his War Requiem, and we got debut recordings from Dylan, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder.
Let’s kick off our 1962 playlist with a cut from a young whippersnapper’s debut album, paying tribute to his elders. Nice moves, Bob.
